The purpose of this Handbook is to provide guidelines for designing, implementing,
monitoring, evaluating, and reporting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
initiatives, with reference to the Companies Act, 2013. Some companies were
supporting socially and environmentally useful developmental activities much before
the enactment of the Companies Act, 2013. The Act has not only made CSR spend
mandatory for all the companies registered in India but laid down some rules on how
to allocate the CSR spend. Many companies are looking for guidance on how to
interpret the CSR related provisions in the Companies Act, 2013 and how to apply
these provisions to their particular business, what kind of activities can be covered
under CSR ambit. This Handbook is made available to get clarity on these
predicaments. It not only gives comprehensive information on legal aspects,
regulations and government notifications but also gives insight for implementation of
activities under the framework of the Companies Act, 2013.
This Handbook will be useful to:
• Board of Directors, top management, senior and middle level management of
companies of all sizes - whether large or small - involved in policy making and
implementation of CSR projects. It will give valuable inputs to policy makers of
