Description:
Solar and wind power are local sources of electrical energy around the world, and oil and natural gas are global sources of energy and chemicals. Combining solar and wind power with battery storage on a micro grid give a unique supply of renewable electricity. These four major technologies developed separately and have merged into a disruptive technology.
Solar power has seen the increase in photovoltaic material efficiency and decrease in cost. Wind power has seen the increase in wind turbine size and energy capture. Lithium ion batteries have seen efficient, large scale production and reduced cost. Design programs for micro grids have been developed that showed the advantage of combining solar power, wind power and lithium ion battery storage batteries to provide continuous power to consumers.
In this book, the status and detailed description of the four major technologies are given and how they are merging. Starting with micro grid technology, then following with lithium ion technology, solar power technology, wind power technology. Then other potential energy and energy storage technologies are reviewed including ultracapacitors and redox flow batteries.
